About These Inspections
SouthCoastToday and The Standard-Times recently undertook a two-month review of local food inspectors’ reports on restaurant safety, finding a system that was, at best, wildly inconsistent across community lines.We found that even though every community uses the same state-mandated form, different inspectors see different things and report violations in different ways. A restaurant that got a clean slate in one community might have been cited for a number of violations by another inspector.
The inspection reports that are available here should be viewed in that context.
And remember: unless otherwise noted, all violations have been satisfactorily corrected.
We set out to look at every inspection report from 2007 for every year-round restaurant and coffee shop in SouthCoast. Most communities opened their files to us. New Bedford, however, would only provide copies of the most recent report for 20 randomly selected restaurants. The city has agreed to provide reports for additional restaurants, 20 at a time, and we’ll post them as we get them.
